Some 25 or so years ago, this lady made her own, long scramble across the sands. Her tiny 2 ounce body faced all odds that the Atlantic Ocean could throw at her. Her 1 in 10,000 odds of survival paid off and today...June 4th (give or take a day)...she came on the beach on Topsail Island, and laid her nest in the night.
ON Saturday the 6th of August...our hatchlings gave some kind of silent signal to "Go over the Top" and out they came with only one purpose....to get the sea as quickly as possible.
TIP TO REMEMBER:
NO FLASH on your camera or phone at a Turtle hatching. It is disorienting to the Turtles and bloody annoying to everyone else! Kind of like forgetting to silence your phone in the movies. Be polite and smart and respectful to these ocean warriors....no flash!

At around sixty days depending on the time in the season and the warmth of the sand.... the hatchlings will be ready to dig out. The sand will also look like it’s boiling, which is why when they hatch it’s called a boil. They come out of the same in large numbers very quickly, making the sand look like it’s boiling.
